Does anyone know the name of the video game I'm looking for?

I'm looking for a video game I saw in a video game magazine back in the 90's. I forgot what magazine it was and what system the game was on, but I remember one of the screen shots of a wizard looking fellow slashing a monster's head off with a sword and blood splattering. It had dungeon scenes almost like diablo, but when you fought monsters a blown up view of you facing your opponent would pop up. I think NES or Snes made an edited version without blood, for I remember thinking I found it at a local rental store and being disappointed.
